I rode Jimi bareback yesterday. Long about 3pm today my thigh muscles and lower back are going to be very unhappy.
I used to ride Gunner bareback EVERYWHERE. Its probably what made me such a good rider. Bless Gunner's heart, he was, by far, the best horse in the world. They just don't make them like Gunner anymore. I haven't ridden bareback in almost 5 years. When James was a baby I hopped on him bareback once, but it confused him. He didn't do anything bad, he just didn't do anything right.
Yesterday was a barrel of monkeys. I've lost a lot of body strength from not riding bareback. It was fun trying "stick on" and still have proper form ROFL. (Almost slid off twice). All
happy_appy1and I did was laugh. I saidto her, "I dont' think I'll be cantering today." Heh heh. I'd have slid off for sure!
So, for something new, I am going to ride Jimi bareback at least once a week - it will help us both with our balance (and help get my aging and lazy bod back into shape.) I need to get that pony outside again--all we do is ride in the indoor arena. Hopefully next week we can use the outdoor paddock. Since he grew up in a show ring, nothing about shows bothers him (e.g. horses, barking dogs, children running about, mopeds, golf carts, trucks, trailers, you name it.) But get that pony in the field and OMG! sheds and aderondak chairs eat horses. pfht.
Side note: today is going to be a huge day. I STILL have to finish that darn ritual, tidy up the living room (I've given up trying to put my laundry away--I just suck at it) and get everything ready for tonight before I head out early to set up.
Time for coffee.
